Light the Mideast darkness

Column: Spiritual Parenting

Tonight, as I sat with my family enjoying dinner, we shared in special ritual we call, "Question of the Night." Each night my husband or I ask a single question to expand our children's consciousness and open up a dialogue to foster their emotional, spiritual and cognitive development.

Tonight's question was, if you could make the world a better place, what would you do? Both my 13 year-old and 9 year-old instantly said, "I would stop the war." Neither of my children is very political and both rarely watch the news, but within them there is a deep knowing that the wars in the Middle East are destructive.

As we watch the conflict in the Middle East unfolding many people believe there is nothing they can do to contribute to the peace process. Each one of us can be a significant vehicle for change. One of the most powerful ways to bring about peace is through prayer. Every morning and every evening please take a moment and join with millions around the world as we focus our prayers on peace.

Regardless of your religious or political viewpoints, for the sake of our global brothers, sisters and children please help to bring light to the darkness they are experiencing in the Middle East.

Begin by letting go of any judgments you have regarding the conflict in the world. Surrender our world into the hands of God, then feel peace with every morsel of your soul. Surround our planet with a golden light of harmony and then envision your highest thoughts of peace; know that it is here waiting for the darkness to be lifted. Follow this exercise with the prayer below:

Dear God,

We pray from the deepest place in our heart that the Middle East and the world be blanketed in peace. May every person see the holiness in each others eyes. May every solider see the light in the soul of their adversaries. May every child see each other as a miracle. May every world leader realize we are all deeply connected. And finally, may we all know peace on earth. Amen

None of us know how peace will be revealed, it may be through diplomacy, it may be through military intervention, and it may be by divine intervention. If you resonant with this prayer please share this with everyone you know and ask them to participate with their families in manifesting peace. Together, God willing, we can all know peace on earth.
