The law of rich action
Column: Outing the Goddess Within
It's "The Secret to everything — the secret to unlimited joy, health, money, relationships, love, youth: everything you have ever wanted." Or so says the spiel describing "The Secret," a feature-length movie revealing "The Great Secret" of the Universe.
(Psssst! Spoiler ahead: The Great Secret is to "think happy thoughts.")
But is it such a secret? In the words of Oprah, "This is something I've been doing all along!"
And in the words of me, "Me too!"
Applying the principles of the Law of Attraction (only, I didn't know "thinking positive thoughts" had a name back then) is how I got my beach house in Australia's stunning South West (even though I was a single mother being stooged by a maintenance-dodging third party at the time).
It's also how I got my writing career, my gorgeous son and my fabulous new husband. Pity it hasn't done anything to give me back my youth, but then again, I'm proud of my laugh lines and curves and the upgrade in clothing sizes. (Just think — you too can have a whole new wardrobe for every 10 pounds of added weight, and all it takes is some positive thinking!)
It seems that everyone has a copy of "The Secret." So it was very refreshing to find {url http://www.youtube.com/CathWoodVideos} a woman in Margaret River who has never seen the movie nor read the book, yet is absolutely certain she will be able to raise $2.75 million within the next 60 days.
Cath Wood is a mum, wife and "regular" person who wants to build a custom circus training and performance space on a block of land that happens to have a hefty price tag. And she's using the power of positive thoughts to get it.
"My dream block of land came up for sale recently, and I wasn't quite ready for it yet," says the unstoppable Cath. "Or more to the point, I don't have just under $3 million available to buy it today."
So, like all good positive thinkers, Cath "put a stake in the ground so that providence could move too," and issued an invitation to 27,500 of her friends (you included) to donate $100 each so she can buy her piece of paradise. She also ran through the forest naked a couple of times, but we've yet to see how that translates to dollars in the bank.
Sure, there are skeptics — "I don't believe it's possible for you to get $2.75 million in 90 days, and I love a good train wreck. Give me front-row seats," says one.
But there is a groundswell of people supporting the idea — "I reckon it's do-able, I sincerely reckon it's do-able!" says another.
As for me, well, I'll be setting up a tribute to the Roman goddess of abundance, Fortuna, on Cath's behalf. Fortuna is invoked for good luck and prosperity. (Either that, or cry-babied to during times of hardship.)
She usually is depicted holding a rudder in one hand, steering our destiny as our karmic path progresses, and/or a cornucopia. Cornucopia is jargon-speak for "horn of plenty." ... Assuming Cath keeps her "running through the forest naked" videos up, she could well be the recipient of "plenty of ... " Oh, never mind.
Fortuna's cornucopia signifies the wealth that she could bring, but wealth aside, those who have joyful intentions are the ones who are most rewarded with success and prosperity.
Now, what could be more joyful than a circus training facility for acrobats and clowns? That, and finding $2.75 million in your bank account, of course?
