For some people, Christmas is the season to eat roast turkey and drink champagne. For others, it's about enjoying an informal seafood banquet at the beach. Some might get nostalgic about the abundance of cherries Santa left under the tree, or count down the days until they can dive into the endless supply of fresh ham or chocolate-coated peanuts.

As for me, well, Christmas was simply the "annual season of the shameless pig-out." This was fun for a while, but as the banquet lunches were gorged, year after year, I noticed that my enjoyment of the food was diminishing and my waistline expanding.

When I substituted a plateful of roast potatoes for a bowl of fruit salad three years ago, I realized I was on the cusp of discovering something much better - and healthier - than my traditional chow-down. Even though I felt so full I was bursting, I still left the dining table that day feeling lighter and more energized than ever before.

I subsequently investigated my food choices further and in doing so, discovered a correlation between the Goddess Birth Signs and the best food choices for our bodies and our health.

Just like astrology, there are 12 Goddess Birth Signs, each of which are named after an ancient goddess whose energy prevailed at the time of your birth. Also like astrology, these birth signs give us insights into our instinctive talents, natural values and innate behaviors. I like to think of these signs as a personal GPS for connecting you with your authentic Self.

Now, in knowing the goddess birth signs for each of the members of my family, I'm able to plan a Christmas Day menu that caters for all their different tastes - whether it's a meal "fit for a king" or merely "slim pickings," everyone leaves the table feeling happy, healthy(!) and totally satisfied.
