Universal Health Care
Column: For His Glory
Universal health care is a hot topic in this year’s presidential election. It is a hot topic because many Americans are without health insurance. Many children are without health insurance and no matter where you stand on the debate everyone should have access to a doctor’s attention. That being said many wise people have said “prevention is the best form of medicine.” Hence it is important that we exercise regularly, get proper rest and enjoy regular hours of sleep. Health matters it’s that simple and God agrees. This is why God gave many health principals in his Holy Word.
There is another old phrase that says, “You are what you eat,” if that is the case Americans are eating a “whole lot of fat” because we are the most over weight country on the global. We need to control our diet we need to go back to God’s word. Early in God’s word He has given us a diet that will optimize our health. It designates what should and should not be eaten. This prescription regarding our dietary consumption is found in the Old Testament (cf. Leviticus) and because it is found there many Christians believe it can be discarded as part of the old laws. Not so! Many people are discovering through the Bible Gods ideal plan for optimal living.
Not long ago National Geography did a report on “cultures of longevity” they followed three groups who tend to have the longest life span in the world. Among these three groups was a group found right here in America, the Seventh-day Adventist Christians. What amazed the reporter the most was that out of the three groups studied Adventist are the only “culture of longevity” that is not in decline. Despite the growing health problems in America, Adventist outlive their American peers. What is their secret? It is simple; it is faith in God’s word including the part that talks about diet. Adventist have been teaching biblical health principals since their official inception based strictly on God’s word. You can watch a short 5 minute video on this study at the National Geography website by following this link. http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0511/sights_n_sounds/index.html
Now many more Christians, aware of the health problems in America, are turning to God’s word and discovering God’s dietary principals. Why are people going back to the Bible? Because people have discovered that God’s word is the truth our souls need. Recently a friend of mine sent me a link to another short video that shows another well known non Seventh-day Adventist minister promoting God’s recipe for proper food. I am not surprised the conclusions of this excerpt are similar to what Adventism teaches, because there is unity in Gods Holy Word. http://www.mydadsrestaurant.com/josteencleanfoodbig.wmv
Many people are discovering God truth for optimal health because they can see that health in America has to change. Yet we can’t wait on the political agenda to change our health care only God can do that. Hence I challenge you to follow what Gods word has to say about our bodies and I guarantee you that if you spend 90 days following God plan for proper eating you will feel better, think clearer and praise God that His word is everlasting. That is universal health care we can count on!
